Google announces the launch of its new “AI Sound Therapist,” a tool designed to help people manage stress and improve sleep using calming sounds. This feature is part of the Google Health app starting next month. It uses artificial intelligence to create personalized soundscapes for users. The AI listens to brief user input about their current mood or needs.

The tool then generates unique sound environments. These sounds aim to promote relaxation or focus. Google says the technology learns from each interaction. It gets better at suggesting helpful sounds over time. Users simply describe their desired state, like “less anxious” or “more focused.” The AI processes this request instantly.
It creates a tailored sound mix. This mix might combine natural sounds, gentle music, or ambient tones. Google researchers developed the AI using studies on sound therapy. The company tested it with thousands of volunteers. Feedback showed positive results for reducing tension and improving sleep quality.
Dr. Lisa Chen, Head of Google Health AI, explained the goal. “We saw a need for accessible mental wellness tools. This uses AI to make personalized sound therapy simple and immediate. It helps people relax anywhere, anytime. Just open the app and tell it what you need.” The AI Sound Therapist works offline after initial setup. This protects user privacy. No conversations are stored or sent to Google servers.

The feature focuses on common wellness needs. It offers sounds for sleep, concentration, anxiety relief, and quick relaxation breaks. Examples include simulated ocean waves or forest sounds. Google plans to add more sound options based on user feedback. The AI Sound Therapist will be free within the Google Health app on Android and iOS. Availability starts May 15th in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. More countries will follow later this year.
